HOME LIFE BY ROSE ANN HUMPHREY FOUNDER/SENIOR DESIGNER -- MODERN LUXURY MAGZINE

Since childhood, Rose Ann Humphrey has always been drawn to the creative side of life. “Although it was not a conscious thought, I’ve come to realize that design was always my dream.” Humphrey reminisces. “Through my education at The Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as growing up in New York City and being part of a design community with very high standards, I’ve been able to grow my passion into talent.”

Now a highly sought afier interior designer, Humphrey is the founder of Home Life by Rose Ann Humphrey. As a full- service interior design studio, Home Life offers everything from interior design concepts, 2oor planning and layouts to custom interior furnishings, cabinets and more. “Home Life is a customer driven company,” Humphrey explains. “I listen very carefully to my clients’ wishes and their dreams. Details matter enormously in any project and our attention to detail is a main priority.”

Working closely with her own team and clients, Humphrey collaborates with exceptional artisans, as well as architects, workrooms and consultants. Having learned the importance of her surroundings, Humphrey finds that acknowledging a sense of where your project is can greatly influence design. “I spend time being part of that community and drawing inspiration from the style individual to that area.” she explains. “It is also important not to discard some of the important elements that exist, especially in an older house. Remember, elegance is wonderful, but so are practical solutions.”

Holding the belief that a home must be a pleasure, Humphrey’s newest project is the pinnacle of luxury- a 40 foot Hinckley Sailboat. Ensuring that no stone is left unturned when it comes to her clients, Humphrey reinvents living spaces into dreams.

ROSE ANN HUMPHREY,

FOUNDER, OWNER &

SENIOR DESIGNER

With a calling to help each client “discover their own visual voice,” Home Life by Rose Ann Humphrey is a full service interior design firm. “Our passion is to create interiors that bring a sense of wellbeing to the people we work with,” says Rose Ann Humphrey, founder and senior designer of her eponymous firm.

Specializing in high-end residential interiors, from single-family homes to condominium residences, Home Life also designs yacht interiors and commercial spaces, from resorts to offices. With projects spanning New England, Vermont, New Mexico, Los Angeles, the Bahamas, Switzerland and beyond, Humphrey approaches her work with the inspiration that her clients will “love how they live.”

With notable clients ranging from Norman Lear to legendary Architectural Digest editor-in-chief Paige Rense, some of Home Life’s recent projects include the restoration of an 1860s era Victorian townhouse in Boston’s South End, originally owned by the founders of The Boston Globe, and the interiors for a Hinckley Bermuda 40-foot yacht.

A New York City native, Humphrey always found inspiration in her surroundings, whether it was a birthday party at Tavern on the
Green or a walk on the beach with her father. She brought this aesthetic appreciation to her studies in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology before finding her way to interior design. “I grew up believing that you should not leave this earth until you’ve made it a little more beautiful,” says Humphrey.

BOSTON FACES OF DESIGN 2020

Established in 1980, Home Life by Rose Ann Humphrey strives to help clients discover their unique visual voice and bring their dream of the perfect interior to life, with an emphasis on luxury. “We strive to translate clients’ feelings and needs into designs that not only work for them, but are of them,” says Rose Ann. Rose Ann’s firm is committed to clients loving how they live. Her desire is for gentleness in the homes of clients, who often live in competitive outside worlds, so they can experience the joy of a home that expresses them, supports them and enables them to live in their dreams. Seeing something beautiful they acquired on a fantastic family holiday brings nurturing memories. “We listen carefully and respect our clients’ willingness to share who they are with us, helping them discover their own visual voices,” says Rose Ann. “We are inspired by who our clients are, and our goal is for them to be delighted and comfortable in their houses.”

Designer and clients were friends before the redo began and remained good friends after its completion. “Rose Ann is magical in the way she fulfills a client’s design wishes,” says John. Adds Pamela: “Working together was definitely a challenge, because I have very strong views of my own. She was totally responsive to reflecting our personas, using her design experience and knowledge.”

For Rose Ann, the joy of interior design is what she calls “the process of listening closely, then helping people find their visual voices.” In this instance, she even shopped with the couple’s three daughters, individually guiding each to make her own choices.

Testimonial from the Editor:

“It was a pleasure working with you.  These stories always start with a great project, which you surely have there.  What makes it even better is to have someone as thoughtful, cooperative, and organized as you were on “the set” of the shoot. It makes our job so much easier and fun. Throw in the totally hospitable and charming homeowners, and you have a sure recipe for success.  When the team works with the same goal in mind, the end result is exponentially superior!” – Gail Ravgiala, Editor, Design New England

ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST

VINTAGE VERMONT: Antique Shopping with Rose Ann Humphrey

Eighteen years ago Rose Ann Humphrey, a New York native, left Boston, where she had been living with her two young children. She soon found herself in Vermont. “I was smitten,” she says. “It was the first place I’d ever been where you could actually sense the well-being that came from clean air and a simple way of life. The combination of the small-town environment and resort excitement made me very determined to stay.”

At the end of a day, Rose Ann Humphrey says, “I’m like Seiji Ozawa, the symphony conductor – if I point to the first violin and he can’t play, I’m in trouble. But fortunately, the dealers I know in Vermont are all accomplished. My clients demand authenticity, and my dealer friends can provide that.”
