About Home Life by Rose Ann Humphrey
I am devoted to interior design. That sentence doesn’t quite cover it, but it’s the truest place to start.
“Love How You Live”
Rose Ann Humphrey, Senior Designer & CEO
I believe everyone has a story behind how they got to where they are in life. Just like everyone, I also have one. I grew up in New York City, trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and cut my teeth at Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord and Taylor, working in their design departments. That foundation- steeped in style, quality, and a real understanding of what people want when they walk into a beautiful space- set the direction for everything that followed.
When I decided to start my own company, life led me to Vermont. The Green Mountains of Stowe had a pull I wasn’t expecting, and what began as a move with a young family became twenty-five years of building something I’m enormously proud of. Vermont brought me a remarkable client list: Norman Lear, Paige Rense, Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Digest, and The Point at Saranac Lake, named “The Best Country Inn in the World” by Relais & Chateaux, among many others.
During those years, I also owned and operated the only independent Pierre Deux French Country shop in the United States, opened personally for me by the founders, Pierre Moulin and Pierre LeVec. They were, simply put, friends and colleagues whose influence on my design sensibility was lasting.
When my children were grown, I relocated to Boston, where I became part of the Boston Design Center’s vetted team, serving as their #1 producer in the “Designer on Call” program. My work there brought me into collaboration with some of the finest showrooms in the country, including Stark Carpet, Brunschwig et Fils, Holly Hunt, and Cowtan and Tout. These are the names that are considered “the best and brightest stars” in our industry.
And now, like so many others, I’ve become part of the migration from North to South. My home on South Battery Street in Charleston, South Carolina, feels, in many ways, like Vermont did in those early years: a beautiful city drawing new arrivals from across the country and around the world, all of them looking to put down roots in a place that inspires them. I understand that feeling entirely.
About Home Life
Home Life by Rose Ann Humphrey is a full-service interior designer firm specializing in high-end, luxury residential and commercial design. We’ve been doing this since 1995, and in all that time, the core of what we do has never changed: we listen to our clients, we help them discover their own visual voices, and we create spaces that allow them to truly love how they live.
Our desire for every client is a sense of gentleness at home. The outside world is often demanding and competitive. The rooms you return to each evening should feel like a quiet exhale from the battles of life. We take that seriously. A carefully chosen paint color that catches the afternoon light. A piece of furniture that carries a memory. A layout that simply makes sense for the way your family moves through a space. These are the details that transform a house into a home.
As the best interior designer for clients who value individuality over trends, we work across a spectrum of styles and project types. Our portfolio includes primary residences, condominiums, and commercial common areas across Vermont, Massachusetts, Florida, California, the Carolinas, Maine, and beyond. We’ve designed on yachts and in beachfront homes, in mountain retreats and city apartments. The location changes. The commitment to quality doesn’t.
As a home interior designer who has spent decades in this industry, I’ve seen trends come and go. What endures is always the same: spaces that reflect the people who live in them. That’s what Home Life has always been about, and it’s what we carry into every project we take on.
Recognition & Credentials
Lifetime Honored Member of the National Registry of Who’s Who in Professionals and Executives. Vetted Member, Boston Design Center’s Designer on Call program. LEED AP Certified. Collaborator with the finest showrooms and vendors in the industry.
And perhaps most meaningfully: over thirty years of clients who come back, refer their friends, and say that their home finally feels like theirs.
We’re Sent To Make Our World Beautiful
I grew up believing you should not leave this earth until you have made it a little more beautiful. Interior design, for me, has always been the most direct and personal way to do exactly that. Every room we complete is a small act in service of that belief.
If you’re ready to love how you live, I’d love to hear from you.
