from the first layout decision to the final detail
You Chose This Island Deliberately. Your Home Should Feel Just As Considered
As a homeowner, does your home truly reflect you? If not, then a full-service design needs to come into play.
Home Life brings full-service interior design to Kiawah Island. Every decision is made in relation to the whole home, not room by room in isolation.

Interior Design That Belongs To You, Not A Catalog
Kiawah Island attracts people who have made choices about where and how they want to live. A home here should reflect that same standard of intention. It rarely does when it has been designed generically.
Home Life begins every interior design project on Kiawah Island with the people living in the home, how a household moves through a morning, and what the space needs to do when the day slows down. How light shifts through the rooms across the seasons. The design that follows from those conversations is specific, considered, and built to outlast any trend.
Understand The Home
Review light, circulation, material condition, and how each room connects to the spaces around it and the landscape beyond.
Understand The Household
Plan for how the family actually lives day to day - not how a floor plan assumes they might.
Build One Complete Direction
Every selection, finish, and detail decided within the context of the whole interior. Nothing out of context. Nothing out of step.
What Working With A Full-Service Interior Designer Actually Looks Like
Working with an interior designer in Kiawah Island means the design direction is established before a single item is ordered or a contractor is engaged. Home Life provides interior designer services in Kiawah Island that cover the full scope of a home: space planning, material and finish selection, lighting direction, furniture specification, and project coordination through to installation.
The best interior designer in Kiawah Island for a luxury coastal property understands how the island’s environment – its light, its humidity, its indoor-outdoor character – shapes what materials perform well and what aesthetic decisions belong here. Home Life brings that knowledge to every project, whether it involves a principal suite, the full living area, or a comprehensive whole-home transformation.
As an interior design company in Kiawah Island with access to trade-only resources, Home Life specifies materials from fabric houses including Kravet, Schumacher, Lee Jofa, and Brunschwig et Fils, alongside stone, tile, cabinetry, and lighting vendors that are not available through retail channels. The result is an interior that reads as genuinely designed, because it was.
Residential interior design services in Kiawah Island from Home Life are built around one principle: the home should feel completely right for the people living in it. Not designed to impress from the outside. Designed to feel like exactly what it should be from the moment you walk through the door.
Home Life leads in every aspect of interior design in Kiawah Island.
Full-Service Design Direction For Kiawah Island Homes
Space Planning
Layout development based on how the household actually moves through and uses each room - specific to this home, not pulled from a template.
Material And Finish Selection
Surfaces, fabrics, paint, tile, stone, and cabinetry chosen as a coordinated whole. Each decision belonging to the same direction.
Furniture And Lighting Specification
Pieces selected for scale, proportion, and their relationship to the full interior - not the showroom floor they came from.
Custom Window Treatments
Drapery and shade specifications in trade-quality fabrics suited to the coastal environment and the design direction of the room.
Color Consultation
A coordinated palette developed for walls, cabinetry, trim, and surrounding surfaces that holds across the full home.
Project Coordination
Design oversight through contractor communication, ordering, and installation review. The design intent is protected from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.
Initial Consultation And Home Review
Discuss what is working, what is not, and what the home needs to become. Review the existing space, light conditions, material condition, and the household’s daily patterns.
Design Development
Establish the full design direction before any selection is finalized. Space planning, material palette, furniture direction, and lighting approach developed as one connected brief.
Material, Finish And Furniture Selections
Work through every choice within the full palette. Surfaces, cabinetry, fabrics, hardware, and lighting reviewed together - because they live together.
Contractor Coordination
Communicate the design intent with the contractors involved. Review work against the approved direction. Address questions before they become site problems.
Installation And Final Walkthrough
Bring the final elements into place and review the completed interior with the client before the project closes.
How Home Life Manages Every Project
Every project we commit to has an established process to ensure you don’t have to worry about what comes next.
The Designer Behind Every Home Life Project
Rose Ann Humphrey is the founder and senior designer of Home Life, established in 1995. Her practice was built in New England, across Boston and Stowe, and has expanded to serve clients throughout Charleston and its surrounding island communities, including Kiawah Island.
Her portfolio includes residential design work for American screenwriter Norman Lear and a professional relationship with Paige Rense, the celebrated former editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest. Landmark project credits include The Point at Saranac Lake, the Rockefeller Property and Great Camp, and The Showhouse Inn, named the number one country inn in the world by Relais and Châteaux. Houzz has recognized her Victorian Brownstone project with a Featured Designer designation.
Rose Ann is personally involved in every project Home Life takes on. The goal, across every interior design project in Kiawah Island and beyond, is to help clients love how they live and discover their own visual voice.
What clients say
Once again would like to thank you for all your help in finding the perfect settee for us. While we were overwhelmed with the Design Center itself, and almost walked out, you were able to listen carefully to what we wanted and navigate the maze of stores and bring us to the shop that carried just what we wanted. You respected our price concerns and guided us through the process of customizing the settee, keeping price in mind as we selected fabric and wood stain. This was our first time working with an Interior Designer and we were impressed with your knowledge and desire to find just the right piece to meet our specific space limitations.
Thanks for your assistance.
I was fortunate enough to work with Rose Ann when we bought our house. Rose Ann was incredibly responsive; she replies almost immediately to emails, phone calls, and texts. She is truly an artist and I trusted her taste completely. She got to know my family and created spaces that are not only lovely to look at, but also comfortable to live in. She seemed to instinctually understand the vague vision that I had and transfer it into something concrete and lovely. I learned so much from working with her and I could not be more delighted living in my spaces. I have received many compliments on my home and have continued to go back to Rose Ann whenever I need anything else. Rose Ann truly cultivates a relationship with her clients that is permanent and rich. I am so grateful to work with Rose Ann!
Rose Ann Humphrey of Home Life changed my home, changed my life. I have built/remodeled several homes over my lifetime. I always came at the project as “how do I impress friends and neighbors and business associates.” In other words I was creating an environment for others. Rose Ann showed me that I am at my home more than anyone and that it should reflect me as a person. I should “Love How I Live” in my environment. Not only is the interior amazing but the landscaping is so welcoming. She knows and promotes coordination with the whole team – architect, builder, landscaper ………AND SHE LISTENS NOT JUST HEARS. I highly recommend Rose Ann Humphrey and Home Life.
Your talent and ability in conceptualizing the design direction and overall intent of the property’s ownership while working closely with our architect has produced an outstanding and commendable result.
It should also be noted that your years of construction experience and knowledge of materials for specific uses, together with your ability to coordinate the various facets of your work with those of other trades and disciplines, has definitely played a great part in your work performance. Thank you for giving your all to this project.
I know that you realize how much I love both my homes, Cape Cod and Naples, Florida, that you both designed and completed. And of course you also did the exteriors of both. Although you are not a landscape architect (by profession) you well know the joy and relaxation the Cape garden (which we refer to as the Zen Garden) brings me and how you have received so many compliments on its beauty. These two experiences have brought me a real change in my values. Your slogan “love how you live” has come to life in me.
Rose Ann has not only given me beautiful home and office spaces, living and working in her creations has been delightfully transformative. I am inspired, at home, and my guests and clients tell me every time I see them how much they love visiting. I implicitly trust her sense of style and her extraordinary ability to design spaces that are perfect for me in every way. She gives me the freedom to express the feeling of what I am after, and, then, Voila! The next thing I know, I am walking into the magic. I can’t wait to work with her again.
We had incurred water damage throughout several areas of our home in Shelburne, Vermont. Rose Ann spearheaded the project which included a total renovation of our kitchen and dining area. The craftsmen she retained did an excellent job and the project came in on time. Her selection of tiles, faux painting of the cabinets, floor and wall coverings, countertops and appliances all came together to make a stunning and very usable kitchen overlooking Lake Champlain. We have recently retained Rose Ann to renovate our master bathroom.
Home Life takes on full-home interior design projects and defined-scope projects where a clear design direction is required. The approach is the same in either case: one complete design direction, not room-by-room decisions made without reference to what surrounds them.
A full-service interior designer provides space planning, material and finish selection, furniture specification, lighting direction, contractor coordination, and project oversight. The value is a home where every decision was made in relation to every other - producing a result that feels resolved rather than assembled.
Yes. Home Life coordinates the design direction with contractors involved in the project. Confirm the preferred contractor arrangement at the initial consultation.
Home Life provides interior design services throughout Charleston and its surrounding island communities. Confirm availability for a specific property directly with the studio.
The initial consultation is a discussion about the home, how it is used, and what it needs to become. Rose Ann reviews the space, discusses the household’s priorities, and establishes whether a full design engagement or a more defined scope is the right starting point.
